Privacy

This describes what Ael does with your data. It is written to match the product rather than a template, so if the two ever disagree, the product is the problem.

The short version

Your conversations are written to your browser first. If you make an account, they are also synced so they follow you between devices. Ael has no advertising, no analytics and no third-party tracking scripts.

Chat requests go to Ael's own servers and from there to the AI provider that answers them. That provider sees the conversation it is answering, and nothing else you have stored.

What is stored, and where

In your browser: your conversations, folders, what Ael has remembered about you, your standing instructions, and your theme preference. This is the primary store.

In our account database (if you signed in): your email address, your display name, your profile picture if you uploaded one, your subscription status, and token counts used to apply your plan's limits.

In object storage (if you signed in): your synced conversations, as a single copy per account.

What happens when you sign out

The copy in your browser is deleted. The account copy is not — it is still yours, and signing back in restores it. Signing out on a shared device therefore leaves nothing of yours on it.

Who can see your conversations

The AI provider that generates an answer receives the conversation needed to answer it, which normally includes the preceding turns. Different answers may come from different providers, chosen automatically for availability and cost.

Ael staff can access stored data only where required to operate or protect the service, and where required by law. There is no internal tool for browsing users' conversations.

Voice input

Dictation uses your browser's built-in speech recognition. Your audio is sent to your browser vendor to be transcribed and is not stored by Ael. This is the one part of the product where a third party outside the provider list receives your content, which is why it is called out here rather than buried.

Retention

Conversations and memories are kept until you delete them. Deleting a conversation removes it. Deleting your account removes the account, its conversations, its memories and its sign-in — see the deletion page in Settings, which also cancels any subscription.

Payments

Payments are handled by Stripe. Ael receives your email address, your plan and your subscription status. It never sees or stores your card details.

Getting your data

You can export your conversations at any time from the chat sidebar. Deleting your account is in Settings and takes effect immediately.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes materially, the change will be reflected here. Questions about your data can go to privacy@ael.app.
